Claim your free flight from Bamboo Airways
Bamboo Airways, a Vietnamese airline, is giving away their loyalty points which you can redeem for free flights.
You can view the offer details here. Until March 31, you earn 50 Bamboo Club points for taking any of the following actions:
- Log in on the website
- Log in on the app
- Open a promotional email
You can earn the bonus once per platform per day, so max. 150 points a day. During the promotional period your earning is capped at 4,000 points – if you don’t want to receive their emails, you need to log in on their website and app for 40 days to reach the cap.
4,000 points is enough for a one-way off-peak domestic flight under 460 miles. Some city pairs are:
- Ho Chi Minh City – Phu Quoc / Da Nang / Nha Trang
- Hanoi – Da Nang
You still need to pay the taxes and charges, which is about $20.
If you may visit Vietnam in the next year or so, consider sparing a few seconds every day to win your ticket.
Cathay Pacific 1,500 miles sign-up bonus
Cathay Pacific has joined Aegean in giving away free miles, although it’s available to new sign-ups only.
You can view the offer details here. Simply create your account between December 14 and 31 to earn the 1,500 welcome miles, no flight required. It’s limited to the first 15,000 sign-ups but I don’t expect it to fill up anytime soon.
If you travel to Asia from time to time you have a decent chance of flying Cathay, although my recent trip with them in business class failed to impress. They are a conversion partner of American Express Membership Rewards.
Compared to booking an award ticket with Avios, Cathay’s inventory is much better and pricing also a lot lower.
1,000 free Sinagpore Airline miles for joining their KrisShop program
Similar to Lufthansa Worldshop, Singapore Airlines has launched its online KrisShop where you can redeem your miles for merchandises, or earn miles when buying them. It may not sound interesting to you, but there’s an incentive to earn 1,000 free miles with little effort.
You can view the Earlybird offer here. Basically, you can
- Earn 500 miles for linking your Krisflyer account
- Earn another 500 miles for subscribing to the KrisShop newsletter
- Earn a S$20 promo code if you are among the first 5,000 signups (already fully redeemed)
You should see the following popup when landing on the page:
1,000 miles isn’t a lot, but if you are already a Krisflyer collector then it doesn’t hurt to click some buttons.
The promotion runs until June 30 but only the first 30,000 participants are eligible for the bonus miles. The miles will post within 10 business days after the promotion ends.
Qatar Airways to adopt Avios as its loyalty currency, and free 2,500 Avios for everyone
Qatar Airways, out of nowhere, has announced its decision to switch its loyalty program currency from Qmiles to Avios.
[Implications]
There are currently four airlines using Avios as their currency:
- British Airways
- Aer Lingus
- Iberia
- Vueling, which is a subdivision of Iberia
Although no more details are disclosed yet, we believe that Avios will work in a similar fashion with Qatar Airways. Qatar Airways will have its own partners and rates for earning / spending Avios, but a member’s accounts between all airlines can be linked and Avios can be transferred between them. Otherwise it makes no sense to have one Avios program totally separated from the others.
Existing Qmiles will become Avios at 1:1 ratio. Qpoints and Qcredits will remain in place.
The new move benefits us in four ways:
First, Qatar Airways has a few airline partners that aren’t part of Oneworld. You’ll soon be able to redeem your Avios on flights with:
- Bangkok Airways
- JetBlue
- MEA
- Oman Air
- RwandAir
Second, Qatar Airways has a different redemption chart with British Airways, and redemptions on certain route may be considerably cheaper. You could move your Avios over from BA and save, like what many are already doing with Iberia’s MAD-JFK route.
Third, Qatar Airways also has some exclusive non-airline partners. For example, you could convert Qmiles to Acoor points, although the ratio isn’t appealing.
Last, if you fly a lot with Qatar Airways, you may want to credit your flights to their Privilege Club instead of BA’s Executive Club to enjoy better benefits, while still earning Avios.
[Promotions]
If you are not a member of the Privilege Club yet, register using this link gives you 2,500 Qmiles straightway, which will become 2,500 Avios at some point. You’ll earn an additional 5,000 Qmiles if crediting an eligible QR flight by September 30.
If you are a student, don’t forget to participate in their Student Club program, which offers up to 20% discount on air fares, plus other benefits including additional check-in allowance and fast track status.
1000 Free Miles (250 Accor Points) From Aegean Airlines
November last year, Aegean Airlines had a nice sign-up promotion where you could earn 5,000 miles for simply registering, and quite a lot of people took part.
If you are one of them – or if you a Miles+Bonus member anyway – you may be in for another nice surprise of 1,000 miles. A friend of mine received the following email from Aegean earlier:
A gift is waiting for you in the new digital environment of your account!
Something changed in Miles+Bonus!
Log in now to your Miles+Bonus account via aegeanair.com or AEGEAN app, browse the new digital interface and discover a special gift we have for you!
Seeing “a special gift”, I decided to try my luck as well although I received no communication whatsoever. And surprisingly, I saw this pretty banner when I logged into my Miles+Bonus account:
It appears that some people have received a variant of the offer, including 2,000 miles or 20% off a future booking to name a few.
Even if you don’t fly Aegean or Star Alliance, remember that 2,000 miles can be converted to 500 Accor points, which is worth €10 for hotel stays.
