Flash sale: £25 / £50 off flights on Trip.com

Trip.com has a very good flight discount again, for all ex-UK flights. You can check the offer details here.

  • Book by February 28th
  • Travel by August 31st
  • Valid for all flight tickets departing from the UK
  • Two promo codes available: £25 off £175 & £50 off £350
  • Codes are released in three batches on the 15th, 16th and 23rd
  • You need to pay with Mastercard

Trip.com had a few promotions with Virgin Atlantic recently offering a £100 discount, and they went off quickly. This offer is not as strong, but applicable to all flights, so I don’t think they’ll last either. It is not publicised yet (I got an early bird email from Monese), so book before others get in.

London to New York:

London to Luxembourg (business), for those who are doing a BA tier points run:

As you can see, they stack with the in-app £10 discount as well, so you can save up to £60 on one ticket!

Error fare: Virgin Atlantic LHR-PVG Upper Class for 30k points

(UPDATE: Virgin woke up and pulled the “offer” – it lived for almost 20 hours though!)

Virgin Atlantic launched a new global reward sale:

  • Book by Jan 31st
  • Travel by Dec 31st
  • Save 20% points on all reward flights
  • Few destinations are excluded

It is a good offer, although not as good as the previous 50%-off and 33%-off sales.

More importantly, their Shanghai route seems to have loaded the sale fare erroneously.

You pay the following for PVG-LHR, off-peak and peak:

  • Economy: 8,000 points / 16,000 points + 873 CNY
  • Premium: 14,000 points / 22,000 points +1,565 CNY
  • Upper Class: 30,000 points / 38,000 points + 1,719 CNY

To put it into context, the original price for Upper Class off-peak is 57,500 points, so it is almost half-price, not just 20% off. For LHR-PVG you pay the same amount of points, but taxes are gonna be much higher.

If you have an onward connection, the discount works too.

Just a couple of days ago VS had an £800 error fare to Shanghai in Upper Class too – something’s going on there for this route? Do not hesitate as it might get fixed anytime soon.

Great offer: £100 off any Virgin Atlantic flight

(UPDATE: Virgin’s voucher codes have run out)

Trip.com brought back its very generous Virgin Atlantic promotion, and your can claim your offer code on the promo page.

  • Book by January 31st
  • Limited supply
  • Save £100 on any VS flights departing from the UK

It applies to all cabins, and £100 saving could be substantial for economy / premium economy flights. It also stacks with the permanent £10 app discount so the total saving is £110.

A return flight in economy class from London to New York costs under £270:

And flights to other destinations aren’t much more expensive:

There’s a similar offer for Malaysia Airlines, where you can get £50 off (£60 with the app discount) for bookings by Jan 22nd.

Flash deals: BA 25% off and Virgin Atlantic £60 discount

Two good flights deals here, but they will both finish soon!

[British Airways]

BA is offering a 25% discount on all economy fares from London Gatwick to any European destination. You must book by December 9.

[Virgin Atlantic]

Trip.com has a very good coupon for Virgin Atlantic flights.

  • One £60 voucher per customer
  • UK departure only
  • Valid on all routes and cabin classes
  • Book by December 10th
  • Travel by September 30

It stacks with the £10 app-exclusive discount so it takes £70 off your airfare.

It is a genuine and decent offer especially for economy and premium economy tickets.

Business class deal: £500 Europe-China o/w

[Air Serbia]

Air Serbia has very few routes outside Europe, whereas Tianjin, a Chinese city just next to Beijing, is one of them. Air Serbia operates two weekly flights from Belgrade to Tianjin.

If you are looking for a business class flight from Europe to China, the best sweet spot is Berlin to Tianjin, which costs only £564.

Even better:

  • This is Business Freedom fare, which implies free cancellation and change
  • One free stopover is permitted

The ticket is issued in C class, accruing 175% miles in Etihad Guest. You can book a return ticket for around £1,200. Other cities than Berlin are available too but they are more expensive.

[Xiamen Air]

Xiamen Air, a Skyteam member, has some equally attractive fares between China and Europe as well.

  • Valid for many European cities, including London, Barcelona, Rome and Athens
  • You need to depart from / arrive at Xiamen in China
  • Can be booked as one-way or return, valid at both directions
  • XMN-AMS is operated by Xiamen Air, whereas the European leg is by KLM

As far as I know the trip must origin from or end in Xiamen, although this post on Flyertalk has a contradictory statement.

Your chances are the best for January departures, but there’s scattered availability in February too.

Remember that you can get a further £10 discount by booking on Trip.com’s app.

If you have a French, German, Italian, Spanish or Dutch passport you can now visit China visa-free for up to 15 days. Failing that you could always do transit-without-visa as long as you are flying to a third country afterwards.

Virgin Atlantic

  • Stay by December 20th, 2024 (hotel dependant)

The following UK Kimpton hotels are offering 20% discount of gift vouchers:

Hotel Du Vin – rate starts at £145 for two nights, including £50 dinner credit

£100 flight / hotel discount with Trip.com

We wrote about Trip.com’s constant flight discount recently, and they’ve just revealed their Black Friday promotions which are worth a look.

The landing page is here. Note that the specs here are for the UK market, but similar promotions run for France, Germany and Spain as well.

Flight discount:

  • Nov 24, 5pm – £50 off £200
  • Nov 24, 8pm – £20 off £30 on flights to Spain, excluding budget airlines
  • Nov 25, 12pm – £100 off £500
  • Nov 25, 8pm – £30 off £40 on flights to Turkey
  • Nov 26, 12pm – £15 off 100
  • Nov 26, 8pm – £100 off £150 on flights to Thailand

Supply will be limited and they will probably go fast. The flight must depart from the UK, but besides that there are very few restrictions. Keep your alarm clock on if you have flight tickets to buy!

Hotel discount:

  • Nov 24, 6pm – £50 off £150
  • Nov 25, 6pm – £100 off £250
  • Nov 26, 6pm – £20 off £100

Unlike the flight offer there’s no geographical restriction on the hotels, although they can only be applied to “selected hotels”.

Aegean flash sale: £30 off and buy 1 get 1 free!

The Greek airline Aegean is working with Trip.com to launch a flash sale targeting the UK market. You can see the offer details here.

For our London audience, the most relevant bit is the BOGO sale.

  • Going live on November 2, 10am
  • Buy two economy class tickets from London to Athens for the price of one
  • Travel between November 15 and March 31
  • Limited availability

In addition there’s a promo code YXWFIVIWAW that you can claim and redeem until November 10. It gives you £20 discount when travelling from London / Manchester / Birmingham / Edinburgh to Athens and the Greek islands, but unfortunately London – Athens is excluded.

Remember that by booking via the Trip.com app you get an additional £10 off – £30 off a flight is not to be sniffed at, although not as good as the BOGO deal.

As you can see from the image above, your itinerary doesn’t have to be entirely Aegean, but somehow it doesn’t always work. Note that you must enter the passenger information first before being able to see whether the £20 promo code applies.
