Uber: 15% off gift card, £20 flight cashback and promo codes
A roundup of some current Uber (and Eats / Travel) promotions.
Tesco is offering a discount on select gift cards, including Uber. Until November 5th you are entitled 15% off when purchasing the eVoucher, which can be used to top up your account. Uber credit can be used on car ride, takeaway and train / bus tickets, with the exception of grocery delivery.
Uber Travel has an ongoing offer of 10% cashback on train and bus bookings, and it was recently extended till the end of the year. There is now a new incentive for booking flights exclusively for Uber One members: make your first fight booking by November 5th to earn a £20 cashback per passenger, with a minimum fare of £20.
I had a quick look and flights on Uber Travel tends to be more expensive than on Skyscanner, sometimes significantly. That being said, if your flight costs just over £20 then it’s nearly free.
Some promo codes (may be targeted):
- tpns658w2bhz – my referral code, £10 credit after first Uber Travel booking
- rp915yjss1q1 – my referral code, £5 off first five rides
- ORDERAGAIN50 – 50% off next two rides, up to £14
- EATUK30 – 30% off next five Uber Eats orders
- EATUK40 – 30% off next five Uber Eats orders
- UKEATS40O52 – 40% off next five Uber Eats orders
- UK5DEAL – 50% off next five Uber Eats orders
- RSUE10 – £10 off two £25 Uber Eats orders at select Chinese restaurants in London
£10 / €20 off all flights, every time, via Trip.com
Ctrip ( 携程 ) is the largest travel agency in China who owns Skyscanner and Trainpal, to name a few that our UK readers are familiar with. They bought the trip.com domain (which must have been pricy) a few years ago and Trip.com is now their international trading name.
Unlike Trainpal which makes frequent appearances on Hotukdeals etc and is now somewhat known to the British public, I don’t think Trip.com has been very successful in improving their international presence. It drives them to throwing in money on marketing to attract new customers.
There is a very good offer for flight bookings at the moment. You can see the details here.
- Book on the Trip.com mobile app
- £10 off all airfares of £100+
- £5 off all other airfares
- ANY flights excluding Mainland China domestic are eligible
Simple as that. Anyone can get at least £5 off any flight and there’s no limit on how many times you can claim it. The offer doesn’t currently have an expiry date.
The promotion has a similar version for the France / Spain market. In the app if you change the settings and switch to France / French / Euro this offer pops up:
You get €10 off on all tickets costing €13 – €300, or €20 off above that. On paper it works out slightly better than the UK counterpart.
Intuitively you get the heaviest discount on cheap budget airline tickets. Milan – Tirana is priced at €9.99 on Ryanair, or €6 on Trip.
London – Lyon is priced at £12.99 on Wizz Air, or £6 on Trip.
Kuala Lumpur – Singapore is priced at £12.72 on Scoot, or £6 on Trip.
The saving is less impressive on more expensive tickets. It’s worth pointing out that although the France version offers a better discount, I find the pricing frequently more expensive than the UK version.
I have purchased flight tickets on Trip.com a few times, most recently Norwegian to Stockholm last month and I find them quite good. They have decent 4.1 star rating on Trustpilot.
If you don’t have a Trip.com account yet, my referral link will give you £15 vouchers, although I’m not sure how those vouchers work.
Qantas’ impressive A$999 China holiday package
I don’t do flight+hotel package holidays, nor have I ever been to Australia. However, Qantas Holidays has an excellent deal if you want to visit China next year.
You can find details of the China Discovery tour here.
- The all-inclusive price is 999 AUD (£508) per person, based on two sharing a room
- Return flight by Qantas from Australia to China is included
- 8-night 4-star hotel accommodation with breakfast
- English-speaking tour guides
- You visit Beijing, Hangzhou, Suzhou & Shanghai, whereas Xi’an (terracotta city) can be added for a surcharge
You can travel between March and early June, which in my opinion is the best time to visit China. The majority of the country turns into a hotpot in the summer, so exploring during the spring is much more enjoyable.
The only caveat is, you need to apply for the Chinese visa by yourself, unless your citizenship is one of the handfuls that are exempt. In summary I think it is a very attractive offer, suitable for those who reside in Australia and are interested in visiting China.
BA business London to Greece / Spain / Croatia / Turkey for £106 o/w!
Not sure if it’s a sale or error fare, but British Airways has released some great Club Europe fares from London Gatwick to the Spanish / Greek islands and other destinations. The snag is it’s for one-way only.
To start with, check out BA’s low price finder here, which gives you an idea which destinations are included.
- Dubrovnik £109
- Dalaman £123
- Menorca £100
- Ibiza £118
- Corfu £106
- Kos £118
- Rhodes £113
- Santorini £118
- Sardina £114
- Thessaloniki £111
Destinations include Greece, Spain, Turkey and Croatia, and the available dates are in the last week of October and sometimes the first week of November. The common ground is, these routes are all gonna pause in November which kind of explains the exceptional fare.
Here are a couple of examples via Skyscanner:
Dalaman and the Greek destinations will earn you 80 Tier points, and it’s 40 otherwise.
If you price up a return ticket it’s gonna be much more expensive, so make sure you have an alternative way coming back!
Business class deal: Air Serbia Berlin – Tianjin o/w for €650
Air Serbia launched a new route to Tianjin, China earlier this year, and there’s now a pretty good price for travelling there from Berlin in business class.
You can check the flight price on Air Serbia’s website or via Skyscanner. The flight operates only weekly and you’ll be looking at Thursdays. The sale seems to be wide open in August, September and October.
€653 is a very solid deal for a one-way intercontinental flight in premium cabins. I glanced over the fare rules and it appears to be fully refundable and changeable. Unfortunately you can only credit to Etihad Guest, and the fare bucket C earns you 175% miles.
The fare rules also mention one free stop-over permitted. However when I tried to search multi-city it always came up considerably more expensive. I’m not sure if you can book a one-way flight first and then call up to request a stop-over for free.
Tianjin is one of China’s ports that participate in the 144-hour transit-without-visa program. You don’t need a visa for flying into the city as long as you are continuing to a third country within 144 hours.
Etihad sale: Rome – Abu Dhabi for €70 only (including Easter) !
I just booked myself a First Class ticket on Etihad from Abu Dhabi – London via Aeroplan, and then trying to figure out how I can get to Abu Dhabi from Southern Europe. Athens is already quite cheap at €142 with the hidden-city trick, but then I realised Etihad is running a ludicrous sale from Rome!
There are plenty of €70 tickets for FCO-AUH (one-way) throughout March and April:
Considering that it’s a six-hour flight on a wide-body aircraft, it’s almost handing out the ticket for free – in fact, the ticket’s fare is only €29 with the remaining being taxes. It appears to be a flash sale and can be booked on etihad.com only. Looking at Skyscanner, it’s even cheaper than Wizz Air!!
A return trip is available for around €160:
Dates around the Easter holiday are available, which is handy if you are planning a last minute holiday break.
Six hours for a day flight isn’t too long so I’m happy to fly in economy class. Note that it’s hand baggage only though, and you can pay an additional €40 to add on a check-in luggage when booking.
(Gone) Saudia Business class: Cairo – Seoul £400 return
Saudia, a Skyteam member, has an amazing deal for travelling to South Korea in business class if you don’t mind positioning to Cairo first.
You could search and book on Saudia’s website directly. The first available travel date is April 10th. You can only depart in April, but there’s good availability across the month and you can return later.
Basic (I) and Semi-Flex (D) tickets are available. Semi-Flex ticket is slightly more expensive, but accrues more miles and costs a bit less when you need to change or cancel.

You can credit your flights to any Skyteam partners, and potentially Virgin Atlantic as they are set to join the family today.
It’s possible to add a stopover (>24 hours) but the cost will be higher. If you book with Saudia directly, you can apply for a free e-visa to enter Saudi Arabia as well as a complimentary hotel night.
Buy British Airways Silver Card for £600 in their sale
British Airways has announced yet another sale, and as usual it offers an opportunity to earn cheap tier points and thus elite statuses.
The easiest way to view all rates is via their Low Fare Finder. From the tier-point perspective, it’s most cost-efficient to fly Club Europe (short-haul European flights in business class) and here are some headline prices (return trip):
- Belfast £156
- Catania £264
- Dublin £166
- Edinburgh £152
- Glasgow £146
- Istanbul £300
- Luxembourg £136
- Reykjavik £292
- Sofia £240
- Tirana £278
Destinations in bold earn you 80 TP per way, otherwise it’s 40 TP only. Note that there will no longer be any qualification discount in 2023, plus airfares are getting more expensive now so it’s not as cheap to earn status as in the last two years. You can earn BA Silver (Oneworld Sapphire), which requires 600 TP, in four trips to Sofia which will cost you almost a thousand pound.
There’s a way to reduce your cost though, as BA Holidays has extended their double tier points offer till the end of 2023. All flight+hotel and flight+rental bookings earn double tier points, which means you only need two return trips (instead of four) to earn your Silver card.
For a two-night trip to Sofia, the minimum cost is just over £300 pp for two people, which is a great deal. (EDIT: apologies that my calculations were wrong. You need 5 nights minimum to earn double tier points – car rental should be cheaper).
My Gold card is expiring soon but thanks to the soft landing policy I’ll remain Silver for one more year, so I’m not rushing to any mileage run right now. But if you are interested you should considering booking some flights or holidays.
