GHA Giveaway: D$, free night and Titanium status

GHA has started a new sweepstake. It’s easy to sign up and there are some good prizes.

Don’t be misled by languages such as Qualified Stay Dates on the promotion page. You don’t need any hotel stay to enter the draw, nor will it increase your chances of winning.

You earn one entry for simply registering, and additional entries by:

  • Opting in to push messaging from the GHA DISCOVERY app and entering via promotional messaging sent the week of 12 December
  • Following GHA DISCOVERY on Instagram and engaging in the competition that will take place the week of 26 December

Prizes include:

  • 10 D$1,000 prizes
  • 5 Titanium statuses and D$300
  • 5 1-night stays and an Experience (D$550)
  • 4 GHA DISCOVERY swag boxes and D$250
  • 25 D$100 prizes
  • 8 Platinum statuses and Experiences (D$250)
  • 3 Titanium statuses and 1-night suite stays (D$3,000)

Personally I don’t value Titanium status much, as it’s very easy to qualify. Free night stays and D$ on the other hand are very worthwhile.

IHG Cyber Monday: 10k points for every two nights

As we have revealed earlier, IHG has now started their lucrative Cyber Monday offer.

The offer page is here, and you can register here.

  • Book on November 28 and 29
  • Stay by December 31
  • Earn 10,000 bonus points for every two qualifying nights

A qualifying night is a paid reservation booked via official IHG channels and the nightly rate should exceed $30. It is a great offer, especially considering that it could stack with the current global promotion, which means you earn 30,000 bonus points for every four nights stayed.

There are two other Cyber Monday offers:

Up to 25% off select catalogue items. However it is still one of the worst ways to spend your IHG points.

25% off Points & Cash bookings:

  • Book by December 2
  • Say in January & February
  • 25% off the cash component of Points & Cash bookings

As we’ve discussed many times, such sales present an opportunity to buy cheap IHG points. In theory it could be as low as 0.42c per point this time, but the usual suspects (InterContinental hotels in Macau) are not open for reservations.

(UPDATE: the following hotels may be available on certain dates:

Try other dates if the cheap rate isn’t available anymore on the specified date.)

IHG Cyber Sale preview: 10K bonus points for every two nights

IHG has just sent out an email hinting on an upcoming Cyber Monday Sale, referring to it as the biggest member event.

Although we don’t know anything about 2 & 3 yet, details on the first mystery offer has already been revealed on InterContinental Perth’s offer page.

  • Book between November 28 and December 2
  • Stay by February 28
  • Enjoy 10% discount, and earn 10,000 bonus points for every two nights stayed

It is in line with other allegedly leaked information that I saw earlier, although the booking window spans across 5 days which is inconsistent with what the email suggests. My speculation is, the five day window is for the 10% discount, whereas the bonus points offer has a shorter booking window, presumably November 28 and 29.

(UPDATE: I just saw a screenshot of the 10k offer registration page:

  • Booking window: November 28 – 29
  • Stay by: December 31)

It should stack with the other ongoing global promotion, which means you’ll earn 30,000 bonus points for every four nights stayed!

1,000 Jumeirah One points (or 500 Emirates miles) for updating your profile

If you have a Jumeirah One membership account, you can earn 1,000 bonus points for under one minute. Just log into your account and you’ll see the following banner:

Follow through to see the offer details. Basically Jumeirah One added a new Interests section to the profile page, and you just need to tick a few boxes to complete the task. You have until December 31 to do it, and 1,000 bonus points will be deposited into your account within two weeks.

I have never stayed at a Jumeirah hotel and doubt I ever will. 1,000 points is not enough for you to redeem a free night, however, you can:

  • Use the Pay with Points feature to part-pay your bill, possibly including restaurant bills even when not staying with them. 1,000 points is worth £15 / 67 AED
  • Transfer the points into 500 Emirates Skywards miles

Renew your Shangri-La status after only one stay or purchase

Shangri-La ceased its collaboration with American Express, which means Platinum and Centurion cardholders no longer receive complimentary Jade / Diamond status with them. Their courtesy status extension is also coming to an end, so many of us will drop to Gold in a couple of months.

However, if you log in to the Shangri-La app, you’ll probably see the following notification in the message centre:

It is self-explanatory enough: you just need to stay one night before December 15 to extend your current Shangri-La status. An alternative is purchasing a dining experience, which I think is a voucher or some sort.

(UPDATE: Shangri-La has sent out an email:

Stay one qualifying night or spend on one qualifying experience – whether it’s a cup of coffee or a feast at any of our restaurants and bars

Looks like any spend at a Shangri-La restaurant or bar will count.)

There isn’t a landing page for this offer, but it seems to apply to all members. If your Shangri-La status means anything to you, you may want to go for the challenge.

Hilton: double night credit offer, 30% Amex UK conversion bonus

In addition to its double points global offer, Hilton has launched another double night credit promotion which makes it easier to attain elite status and potentially earn even more bonus points.

You can register here.

  • Stay between October 11 and December 31
  • Earn double elite night credit for all stays
  • It counts towards Milestone Bonuses and Rollover Nights too

As usual, both paid and award nights can trigger the bonus. Existing bookings prior to registration count too, so there’s no need to cancel and rebook.

Your check-in / check-out date doesn’t matter, but only nights falling into the promotion period earn bonuses. For example, if you check in on October 9 and check out on October 12, only the last night is eligible.

It’s a nice gesture to make them count towards Milestone Bonuses, which means if you are approaching or above 40 nights, you earn 10,000 bonus points for every 5 nights stayed, on top of all the other promotions.

Last but not least, although not 100% official, multiple people received confirmation from CS that the bonus counts towards Diamond Challenge too – which means you only need six nights for the Diamond status.

Meanwhile Amex UK started a conversion bonus recently which has totally gone under the radar. You get a 30% bonus when converting Membership Reward points to Hilton by November 3, which means 1 MR point = 2.6 Hilton points.

In my opinion it’s still not a great ratio, but if you need some Hilton points right now or you’ve been saving up for a Maldives trip, it could work out in your favour.

Earn double elite night credit when staying with Marriott Homes & Villas

Marriott is running its annual Week of Wonders promotion with various offers, and some are worth having a look. The most intriguing part this year though, is a special deal from its Homes & Villas collection:

  • Book by October 15
  • Stay by April 30, 2023
  • Minimum 5-night paid stay required
  • Earn double points and elite night credits for all stays

You earn a reduced 5 base points / $1 when staying at Homes & Villas, so don’t expect to be flush with points even with the double points offer. However the double night credit bit is genuinely interesting, as you accrue night credit per the usual standard with this brand (except for Marriott Executive Apartments where you only earn 1 night credit for every 3 nights stayed).

Homes & Villas is roughly an upscale Airbnb equivalent. When I checked their website one year ago their footprint was minimal, but it has greatly improved since and they have 1001 properties in the UK now, which scatters across the entire country.

You can easily find an apartment for under £100 a night at many cities.

Obviously the expectation when staying at an apartment is very different to a hotel, but it’s a cheap-ish way of maintaining / upgrading your Marriott status especially as we’re approaching the year end.

Other Week of Wonders promotions include:

  • 50% bonus when purchasing Marriott points by October 13
  • Up to 15% off award night redemption at 4,500 hotels globally
  • Up to $300 credit when booking select luxury hotels

IHG new offer: 10K bonus points every 4 nights

IHG has launched its global promotion for the last quarter of 2022.

You can read the details and sign up here.

  • Stay between October 13 and December 31
  • Choose between 2,000 bonus points every 2 nights, and 10,000 bonus points very 4 nights
  • Once chosen it can’t be changed
  • Only paid nights count

It’s interesting that they are offering members a choice this time. However unless you are not gonna reach 4 nights in the rest of the year, it’s a no brainer to choose the second option. Therefore having two options is a bit pointless – one should probably offer double elite-qualifying night or something like that.

If you are staying enough nights, the offer equates to 2,500 bonus points per night which is a good deal. It’s a decent incentive if you are pondering about hitting Diamond or Milestone Rewards.
