Good Wyndham promotion: stay four nights and earn 21,500 points

Just like Best Western, Wyndham is an unpopular hotel chain and loyal program due to the lack of aspiration properties and meaningful member benefits.

Unlike Best Western, Wyndham runs a lot of ludicrous promotions, and when stacked they can generate a huge amount of bonus points after just a couple stays. Using them wisely you can build up your Wyndham Rewards balance very quickly and earn a lot of free nights.

There are two offers that you can benefit from at the moment.

Stay Twice & Earn a Free Night

  • Book by September 2
  • Stay by September 6
  • Stay twice to earn 7,500 points
  • Redeemable twice

Travel to Europe

  • Book by August 14 on the mobile app or a mobile browser
  • Stay once by September 30
  • Stay three nights to earn 14,000 points, or two nights to earn 7,500 points
  • Redeemable once

I believe only paid stays count. The second promotion is titled Travel to Europe and is advertised as a Shell gift card offer. However both are misleading – there’s no region restrictions and you just earn bonus Wyndham points which you don’t have to convert to Shell gift cards.

If you stay twice (3 nights + 1 night) you should earn 7,500 + 14,000 = 21,500 bonus points. With Wyndham Rewards a free night starts at 7,500 points, which means that’s almost enough for three free nights at their lower-end properties.

Free cocktail monthly at Shangri-La restaurants

Back in 2020, Marriott started the concept of monthly member day in China, and it didn’t take long for Hyatt and IHG to follow suit. Shangri-La has finally joined the party too, and also expanded the idea globally.

The monthly event is called Six Times The Fun, and you can read more on their offer page. It’s mostly about exclusive hotel packages that offer breakfast and dining credit etc, which also earns you 6x Golden Circle points. More interestingly, all Shangri-La Circle members can have a freebie each month.

You can read about This Round is on Us here. Basically you can enjoy one complimentary cocktail at participating Shangri-La restaurants and bars on the 6th of every month.

There are about 20 restaurants available, which isn’t many. However, the Ting Lounge at Shangri-La London is included.

I don’t think you need an accompanying meal to redeem the free cocktail, but for many venues, including the Ting Lounge, mandatory reservation is required to attend.

This is not a life-changing benefit, but if you’ve got Circle points or vouchers you may turn up in one of the restaurants anyway. I just used my voucher towards an afternoon tea in the Ting restaurant recently, and a free cocktail wouldn’t hurt.

2,000 bonus Marriott points for linking your Emirates account

In 2020 Marriott offered 1,500 points to some members to sign up to its partnership program with Emirates. According to a thread on Flyertalk the offer is coming back.

@flyme2 received an email from Marriott:

Earn 2,000 bonus points1 with Your World Rewards™. Simply join by 31 July and complete a stay by 31 August to earn your exclusive bonus. Plus, you’ll earn twice on stays and flights with this exclusive partnership from Marriott Bonvoy® and Emirates Skywards®.

Bonus is slightly higher, however this time you must complete a stay to earn it.

You World Rewards allows elite members from Marriott and Emirates to receive reciprocal benefits when travelling. Marriott elites are entitled to priority check-in and priority boarding when flying Emirates, and also earn Marriott points for the flight ticket.

Note that you must have received an invitation by email to participate. Otherwise I suggest you not link the account until you receive an invitation or travel with Emirates.

IHG 8,500 points targeted bonus for app bookings

IHG has a new targeted offer to encourage members to use its new One Rewards app.

You can check if you are eligible here. I suspect that it’s only for non- or light users of the app, so if you’ve made recent app bookings like me you are unlikely to qualify.

If you do, the offer terms are as follows:

  • Book via the IHG app and stay by August 16
  • Earn 2,000 bonus points on your first stay
  • Earn 6,000 bonus points on your second stay

The offer actually has a slightly different variant, of which the sign-up page is here. It offers an additional 500 bonus points for downloading and signing in on the app, which presumably is only intended for those who’ve never had the IHG app previously.

Note that only paid stays count. Remember that IHG is also running a quadruple points offer this quarter on which you can double dip.

Hyatt: new London hotels, Asia Pacific bonus points offer

Hyatt has recently opened two new hotels in London:

They were recently converted from Holiday Inn and Staybridge Suites of the IHG brands. From what I see their room rates have almost doubled to an eye-watering level (sometimes £300+), which is insane for the location. I hope they’ve done a great renovation job!

On the other hand, if you do want to stay with them spending points appears to be a great option. I find Hyatt’s new redemption pricing confusing, but for an upcoming Saturday they only cost 9,000 points and 12,000 points respectively.

You also earn 500 bonus points per night when staying at either of them by July 31.

Also Hyatt-related, they have started a new Mid Year promotion in Asia Pacific.

  • Register by July 31
  • Stay between May 16 and September 2
  • Earn 1,000 bonus points for every two nights stayed
  • Maximum bonus awarded is 15,000 points

You can see the list of participating hotels on the promo page, which seems to cover most properties except those in mainland China.

IHG Q2 offer: earn up to quadruple points

(Registration is now live)

IHG has revealed its new global promotion, although the registration link doesn’t work yet and will go live on May 4.

You can access the offer page here.

  • Pre-register by May 17
  • Stay between May 18 and August 31
  • The following bonus structure applies:
    • 1st night – no bonus
    • 2rd – 5th night – 2x points
    • 6th – 14th night – 3x points
    • 15th night onwards – 4x points
  • Total bonus points is capped at 100,000

Only paid nights count, and stays at Six Senses / Mr & Mrs Smith hotels are eligible too.

Staircasing the bonus points by number of nights stayed isn’t rare, and makes particular sense as IHG is introducing the milestone rewards in June.

Note that you must register before the promotion starts, so don’t forget to come back to the offer page in two days.

Earn up to 1,800 points ($120) with Shangri-la

Shangri-la’s new program has officially launched today, and I hope you had converted your points into vouchers before the devaluation kicked in. Anyway, to celebrate the program refresh Shangri-la has started an Unlock Your Rewards promotion.

You can sign up here.

  • Offer ends July 31
  • New members receive 300 points ($20) after one qualifying transaction
  • All members receive
    • 600 points ($30) for three qualifying transactions, or
    • 900 points ($60) for four qualifying transactions, or
    • 1,500 points ($100) for five or more qualifying transactions

So if you create a new account now and make at least five transactions by July 31, you’ll earn a total of 1,800 points which is equivalent to $120. Existing members can earn 1,500 points at most, which isn’t bad either.

A qualifying transaction is to spend at least $20 or 300 points on room stay, dining, spa or the Shangri-la boutique. You can earn maximum two qualifying transactions per day.

It’s unclear whether our converted vouchers count – my gut feeling is no, but if you pay an additional $20 for the meal it should be fine. If you have a few of those vouchers at hand, might as well spend them by July 31 to bag a few more Shangri-la points.

GHA hotels double D$ promotion

Since the re-launch of its new program, GHA has just revealed its first global promotion.

The offer page is here.

  • Book between April 15 and May 31
  • Stay by June 30
  • Earn double D$ on all eligible stays
  • Promotional D$ is valid for six months

For Titanium members, it means you earn 14% back in D$ which is a decent rebate. Note that the promotional D$ has a shorter expiry though.

Existing bookings don’t count, so you may want to cancel your upcoming stays and rebook to participate.

I’m staying at a GHA hotel right now to use the 100D$ gift GHA sent me. The redemption experience was very smooth – the front desk just clicked some buttons and I received a confirmation email immediately.
