IHG 30%-off secret sale in Europe, Asia and more

IHG started a pretty decent sale which covers many regions globally, and it could be suitable for your upcoming travel plans.

  • Book by October 16th
  • Stay between October 6th and March 31st
  • Book at least 10 days in advance for two-nights minimum
  • A 15%-discount off the Book Early and Save rate applies
  • Non-refundable

The promotion runs in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia (Greater China excluded). Note that the 15% off is against an advance rate, which is already cheaper than the best flexible rate.

You MUST book via the promo page to see the discount. Here are some rate examples, compared to the best flexible rate:

As you can see, most of the time the saving is 25%, although it goes up to 30% in some cases.

It’s branded a “stay with us again” promotion and has been sent to select members who presumably haven’t stayed at an IHG hotel for a while, but anyone can book it and there’s nothing in the terms and conditions that is against it. The only caveat is bookings are non-refundable.

Breaking: 15% IHG award nights globally

IHG has brought back its beloved award night sale, and you don’t wanna miss out!

Here’s what we’ve gathered so far:

  • Book and stay from September 12th
  • Stay by October 26
  • 15% off all award night redemptions globally

For now it’s a “pre-sale” to select members (Diamond / credit card holders?) only, and will be rolled out to the public in a few days. We don’t know the book-by date yet.

You won’t see any discount in Europe or Americas yet, as the offer doesn’t kick in until midnight hotel’s local time. If you search hotels in Asia however, you can already see it:

Scandals are that IHG increases the redemption price at some properties soon after the sale starts, so you may want to lock in some reservations as soon as possible.

Nordic Choice summer pass: €595 for 7 hotel nights

If you plan to visit Northern Europe this summer, Nordic Choice has released a new product called Summer Pass which is potentially a great deal.

You can view the offer here.

  • Stay dates: June 22 – August 21
  • Applies to 90+ hotels in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland
  • The pass costs €595 and can be redeemed for 7 hotel nights
  • Breakfast included except at Comfort Hotel Express
  • You earn stay credit and points at the Nordic Choice scheme

You can check availability and book at this page. Availability seems quite good although some cities have blackout dates. Most of the participating hotels are under the mid-range (3*) Quality and Comfort brands, but there are a few Clarion hotels (4*) in smaller cities.

The pass is very flexible, as in you can spend the 7 nights consecutively at the same hotel or split them across multiple stays. I did some spot checks and many of the hotels usually cost ~€150 a night, so they can be big savings.

Marriott 25% off app-exclusive flash sale

Marriott has launched a flash sale of 25% discount globally, which may come handy if you have travel plans in the next three weeks.

It is a targeted offer so there’s no landing page. Details are:

  • Book by Sunday, April 2
  • Stay by April 23
  • Save 25% at participating hotels globally
  • Prepay at time of booking

It can only by booked on the Marriott app, to search enter the promo code T2730. Although the offer is targeted, the offer seems to work for everyone.

Hotels may have different cancellation policies – the one that I saw offers free cancellation up to 72 hours before arrival although prepayment is required.

The usual and frequent Marriott Bonvoy Escapes sale gives you 20% off, and there’s an additional 5% on top this time, but the stay window is kind of short. I happen to have some travel plans coming up next week, and I can tell the discount is genuine, although 25% is hardly something to get very excited about.

(Gone) Zurich Marriott, Club Room for 100 CHF!

Zurich Marriott is offering a great deal which is well worth considering if you plan to visit the city in the next month.

Marriott’s price calendar suggests that rooms are being sold for circa 100 CHF on many March dates (until April 1st), whereas the usual rate is over 300 CHF.

If you click through, it is very obviously a pricing error. A single rooms is priced at over 260 CHF, whereas the Club Room with Lake View at less than 100 CHF…

I stayed at the Zurich Marriott Hotel in 2021 and reviewed here. It is not an inspirational property by any standard, but does its job. Club Room comes with access to the M Club, which offers breakfast and evening canapes / happy hour.

100 CHF is an amazing price for a five-star hotel in central Zurich. Beware that hotels tend not to honour such error rates though, so wait at least one week after you’ve booked to see if they get cancelled.

IHG flash sale is back! 20% off all reward nights

Well, I just saw some very heated discussions on a Wechat group, and then realised IHG has brought back its very popular reward night sale!

From what I have gathered so far:

  • 20% off all reward night bookings globally
  • Book by January 20th
  • Stay by March 10th
  • Max. 3 consecutive nights (so not stackable with Chase’s 4-for-3 benefit)

The booking page thanks me for being a (Chase) cardmember, but I think many non-cardholders can see the discount too. It’s unclear what the selection criteria are, as I’ve seen all Diamond, Platinum and even Gold members being targeted.

The offer is only live on January 9th (hotel local time). You can already book Europe and Asia, and UK is coming soon in 15 minutes.

Accompanied with such offer there is always a good chance to buy IHG points cheaply too, and here are some examples:

Hurry! InterContinental Da Nang for 16,000 points

IHG’s IT has been playing up again recently. A couple of days ago InterContinental Bora Bora was up for grabs for only 16,000 points per night but when I learned about it it was too late.

InterContinental Da Nang, Vietnam is now running the same “flash sale”:

It appears that all reward nights are priced at only 16,000 points. You can find scattering dates in April and October, and scarcer availability in other months. For the last-minutes dates in December, the rate goes as low as 14,000 points.

I booked four nights to take advantage of my Chase benefit:

InterContinental Da Nang is generally regarded as one of the best InterContinental resorts in the world, and its nightly rate is usually $500+. Hurry up!!

SLH gift card 20% bonus sale

SLH (Small Luxury Hotels of the World) is running a pre-Christmas sale on gift cards, which is worth considering if you plan to stay at their hotels.

The offer page is here. You won’t see any promotional message but the bonus is shown on the purchase page. You earn a 20% bonus for any face value purchased until December 18.

  • Gift card is valid at all SLH hotels
  • Can be redeemed online by entering the gift card number at special requests when booking, or at the hotel front desk
  • Can be redeemed against hotel accommodation or accompanying food & drinks purchase
  • Valid for 12 months

SLH has more than 500 hotels worldwide, some London properties including:

  • DUKES London
  • The Academy
  • The LaLiT
  • The Franklin
  • Flemings Mayfair
  • St James’s Hotel and Club

Many of the SLH hotels can be booked via Hyatt with cash or points, and some of them are part of the Amex FHR program too. It’s unclear whether such bookings are eligible for gift card redemption though, and I suggest you clarify with the hotel first.
