Buy one get one free – Expedia £30 Black Friday offer for a hotel booking
Expedia used to run ludicrous Black Friday offers, for example 50% off and $500 coupon discount etc. The good old days are gone, but Expedia UK still has an interesting promotion for this year.
- Book by November 28
- Stay by March 31
- Earn £30 in bonus points for a hotel booking
Remember that you must be an Expedia member and activate the promotion first. Terms are opaque, but you will see the 3,000 bonus points on the checkout page if your booking is eligible:
From what I see, you need to spend minimum £31 to earn the bonus. It can be any hotel in any country across the Expedia UK website.
Expedia Rewards points can be easily redeemed against your future hotel or flight booking, so it’s almost like cash if you don’t mind using them. For a cheap hotel booking you are paying £30-ish to get £30 back in points, which is almost buy-one-get-one-free.
Save an additional 20% at UK Kimpton hotels
This year’s Black Friday is a bit of a lacklustre and nothing got me really excited. However, if you live in the UK and is an IHG fan, there is a Kimpton deal that could be useful.
Three Kimpton hotels in the UK are promoting their gift vouchers:
- Kimpton London Fitzroy promo code KFL20
- Kimpton Manchester Clocktower promo code KCT20
- Kimpton Edinburgh Charlotte Square promo code KCL20
You get 20% discount on all vouchers. What I recommend is to buy the Monetary Gift Vouchers, which can be redeemed for accommodation or dining at the respective hotel. If you book via IHG you should still be able to use the voucher, as long as it’s a pay-at-hotel rate, not prepaid.
It should work in addition to whatever discount rate you book on ihg.com, for example the BOGOF voucher via InterContinental Ambassador. Also IHG has an exciting offer coming up this Cyber Monday.
Note that the voucher is valid for 12 months, and must be redeemed in full so choose the value carefully.
Impressive deal: 1088 HKD for Accor Plus membership and a free night!
You probably know Accor, but not Accor Plus unless you live in Asia Pacific. Accor Plus is a paid membership that targets specific countries in that region which offers dining discount amongst other benefits.
Accor Plus Hong Kong is running an impressive deal, probably as a double-eleven promotion but it’s unclear when it ends. If you are interested, purchase the Explorer package that costs 1088 HKD (~£117 or $139) as it includes one complimentary night at participating hotels.
(UPDATE: Accor Plus Malaysia sells a membership that includes two complimentary nights for 1090 MYR / £199 / $235)
You may redeem the free night at almost all hotels in Asia Pacific, including the aspirational properties such as Sofitel Legend Hanoi and Fairmont Singapore. Availability may not be great though, and unfortunately it’s impossible to check unless you have an active membership.
The Accor Plus membership is valid for one year at countries such as Australia, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. Personally I think its most valuable benefits are:
- Red Hot Rooms: hotels on sale could offer up to 50% off, exclusive to Accor Plus members
- Dining Discount: one-person-free when dining at participating restaurants, or 25%-off if it’s a one person only. It works best for two people as it’s essentially half-price
You also get free Accor Silver status but it’s not really useful. If you plan to visit Asia in the next 12 months I think you should seriously consider signing up.
You need a Hong Kong address to sign up, however as you only need an electronic membership card I don’t think that’s a blocker.
Pan Pacific Hotels 40% off flash sale
It’s almost Double-11 (China’s equivalent of Black Friday) and there are some attractive airline and hotel deals that have turned up. Pan Pacific Hotels (GHA member) for example is running an interesting sale.
- Book by November 11
- Stay by September 30, 2023
- A minimum two-night stay required
- GHA Discovery members save 40% off Best Flexible Rate
- Bookings are non-refundable
The new Pan Pacific London is participating:
Pan Pacific has a few properties in China, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, as well as a handful in Canada and the United States.
The discount is deep, but beware that they are non-refundable.
Buy IHG points at 0.47c in the flash sale
It turns out I was too impatient when I wrote about IHG’s flash sale. We’ve gathered more details about the promotion:
- 15% off all reward night bookings globally
- IHG Diamond and Platinum Elites only
- Book between October 26 and October 28
- Stay by December 16th
- Max. 3 consecutive nights (so not stackable with Chase’s 4-for-3 benefit)
If you are the cardholder of select IHG Rewards Credit Cards, you are entitled to early access that started on October 24 already. Note that all dates are hotel’s local time – at the time of writing the hotels in Asia are already on sale, but not Europe or Americas yet.
It’s a good offer and you may want to cancel and rebook some existing reward bookings.
In addition, such promotions are also known as a cheap way to “buy” points indirectly from IHG, as you can make cash & point bookings and then cancel them. You won’t get any money back, but you get the full amount of points instead.
Via cash & points, the following two hotels in the U.S. are offering a good rate:
- EVEN Hotel Rockville – Washington DC Area November 1, 0.49c per point ($98 / 20K)
- Holiday Inn Express & Suites Hardeeville-Hilton Head November 30, 0.476c per point ($119 / 25K)
Stock is limited, and try other dates if you can’t find the cheap options anymore. Usually 0.5c is the lowest you can get when IHG offers 100% bonus on point purchases.
Note that you’ll need to wait for the respective hotel to enter 26th before you can see the discount, unless you hold an eligible IHG credit card.
25% off, 3-for-2 and more offers with Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts
You are probably familiar with American Express’s Fine Hotels and Resorts Program – Platinum and Centurion cardholders can book select luxury hotels at the Best Flexible Rate, and enjoy benefits including free breakfast, room upgrade, 4pm checkout and $100 on-property credit.
Even better, Amex FHR has launched a sale to sweeten the deal. On top of the aforementioned perks, some hotels are making an additional offer, for example:
- 25% off room rate
- 30% off suite bookings
- Complimentary 3rd or 4th night
- Extra on-property credit
The offer page is dedicated to the U.S. market, but the offer is global. I signed in with my UK Platinum card and could see the same deals. Not many UK / European hotels are participating, but here are some examples:
- Baglioni Hotel London 3for2 / $535
- Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh 25% off / $221
- Conrad Dublin 3for2 / $260
- Mandarin Oriental Prague 3for2 / $286
Rates are in USD and exclude taxes. Remember that they all come with $100 credit to spend at the hotel, so WA Edinburgh is exceptional value for a one-night stay.
There are even more great offers in Asia Pacific, and to name a few:
- Conrad Tokyo – 3for2 / $452
- Conrad Osaka – 25% off / $403
- Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong – 3for2 / $326
- Shangri-La Singapore – 4for3 / $254
- Shangri-La Sydney – 4for3 / $285
- Conrad Maldives Rangali Island – 25% off / $900
If staying with a hotel chain, you are still entitled to the usual elite benefits and points accrual. You also have the option to pre-pay, which may earn you additional Amex MR points.

Hilton is running a complimentary night offer for its luxury brands – LXR, Waldorf Astoria and Conrad. You can check the details and book here.
The promotions is advertised for “Fourth Night Free”:

- Use the promo page to book, or enter promo code PBBOG1
Here are some nightly rate examples:
- Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – £264
- Waldorf Astoria Berlin – €321
- Conrad London St James – £326

- Conrad Algarve – €245
Remember to check the cancellation policy when you book.
Act NOW: IHG hotels for 16,000 points globally
IHG’s IT system has been playing up quite a lot recently. There was a global “Flash Sale” where you could get InterContinental and Regent Hotels for 40,000 points or under, and it even happened twice. It appears that a new Sale is going on, and this time it’s even better.
In a nutshell, many many hotels are available at 16,000 points globally on August 5, 2023.

This is regardless of the hotel brand, and available across many cities including London, Paris and New York. Not all hotels are on offer though, for example Amsterdam and most Berlin hotels are excluded (barring InterContinental Berlin).
I myself have provisionally booked the InterContinental Madrid / Lyon, and Kimpton Barcelona.
The date is very far out, so I’d suggest to lock in a few hotels for now and decide later. Unfortunately it’s only valid on that one date only, so you won’t be able to try out more hotels – unless of course, that the error fare appears again later…
