When booking the sale rate, you’ll also get 25% discount in the Middle East and Africa, or 20% discount in Central / Southern Europe on food and drinks spend.

You need to book my March 30 for stays between April 1 and May 31, 2022.

Select company employees can save 30% on their hotel stays with Marriott’s BreakAway program

Marriott sometimes offer fast track programs to select corporate partners. They have another scheme called BreakAway which offers discounted rates to employees from companies that presumably have corporate deals with Marriott.

You could view the offer page here. There are more than 200 names on that list, so if you work for a big company, it’s likely you are already eligible even if you aren’t aware. Some of the participating companies are: Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Siemens, Bosch, HP, Barclays, Citigroup, Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, Nike, L’Oreal and Estee Lauder.

The terms and how to use the rate are:

  • Valid for stays from Thursday through Sunday
  • Stay must include Friday or Saturday
  • Promo code is XML
  • Discount is up to 30%
  • The rate is eligible for points and night credits

Note that BreakAway is a special rate that Marriott voluntarily offers to its partners, which is different to the individually negotiated corporate rates that these companies may be entitled to. The rate should be for personal (leisure) use only, which is why the weekend-stay restriction, although it’s mentioned that some hotels may waive it.

I’ve checked some hotels and listed the rates for comparison (BreakAway v.s. other best available rate):

The discount against Best Flexible Rate is more often closer to 10%, which makes it not competitive at all since most hotels would also have pre-paid rates or other deals. However there are also many generous hotels – Hotel Bristol Vienna for example offers a discount of 40%.

If you work for an eligible company, it’s something worth keeping in mind when you need to book a Marriott hotel. Remember that you need to show the business card / ID when you check in.

Enjoy 15% off at Hyatt hotels if you own a business

It’s not a secret that all hotel chains offer discounted corporate rates to large companies like Google and Siemens etc. What you may not know is that Hyatt actually has a very public corporate program, in which every business owner can take part.

The program is called Hyatt Leverage, the homepage of which is here. If you own a business, simply sign in and then enter some details about your company and it’s done. You’ll receive one confirmation email containing your corporate code which should be used when you book hotels on hyatt.com.

  • Any company opened in any country qualifies
  • Only company employees (i.e. not clients) can use the rate
  • In theory you need to stay at least 50 nights per year, otherwise your enrolment may be terminated

The discount is up to 15% off, which isn’t substantial and doesn’t include breakfast. However it’s flexible in that cancellation is allowed one day in advance, so it could well be useful when there’s no better rate plans available, especially when you book at a short notice.

Save 20% on IHG hotel bookings with Railcard

IHG has partnered up with Railcard to offer cardholders a decent discount when staying at their hotels.

You can find the offer here.

  • Must book on the dedicated offer page
  • Stay must include one Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday night
  • Save at least 20% compared to the Best Flexible Rate
  • Book at least five days in advance
  • Cancel free of charge up to 3 days in advance
  • One-night deposit required at the time of booking

You’ll need to present your railcard when requested upon check-in. In form the promotion is quite similar to what IHG used to have with Mastercard and Avis etc.

On the hotel list page you may see messages saying rooms are not available for the Railcard Partner Rate. Ignore them though and just click through, then you should be able to see special rate highlighted on the rate details page:

Here are some hotel rates I find for your reference (Partner Rate / BFR):

From what I am seeing, the Partner Rate is in general cheaper than the Advance Saver and less restricted, which means it’s genuinely a good rate.

Other IHG offers:

$150 daily credit at Waldorf Astoria, LXR and Conrad hotels

Hilton has started a new campaign with its luxury hotel brands – Waldorf Astoria, LXR and Conrad. By booking the specific rate you can take advantage of $150 daily credit throughout your stay.

You can see the offer here.

  • Book at least three days in advance
  • Two-night minimum stay required
  • Book via the page or use promo code PBEXC1
  • $150 / £100 / €150 credit per night in respective regions, or $150 local currency equivalent in other regions

Looks too good to be true? Well you are right – you must book the specific rate plan to benefit, which is more expensive than the Best Flexible Rate.

Here are some of the hotels, with a comparison of BFR and exclusive credit rate:

Remember that Honors Discount and Advance Purchase rates are also available, which are even cheaper than the BFR. As you’ll find out, in many or most scenarios the credit is largely offset by the rate difference, especially if you are booking in advance.

However that’s just the case in Europe. If you visit Istanbul or Asia, the rate difference is much smaller and this rate plan can actually be a very good deal, providing that you don’t mind eating at the hotel.

IHG Europe offer: 10% off, £80 credit and room upgrade with Mastercard

IHG has historically teamed up with Mastercard to offer rate discounts in the EMEA region. A new offer has just turned up, in a new form though which may interest a different audience group.

You can access the offer page here. It’s basically Mastercard’s version of FHR for high-end IHG hotels – you need to be a Mastercard World / World Elite / Platinum / Black Edition cardholder, although I doubt IHG has a way to verify that. That said, in theory you do need to pay with a Mastercard.

The following benefits apply when you book a two-night minimum stay at participating hotel in UK and Europe:

  • 10% off best flexible rate
  • Room upgrade, subject to availability
  • 10am check-in and 4pm checkout, subject to availability
  • $100 credit per stay at Regent, InterContinental and Kimpton hotels
  • $50 credit per stay at Hotel Indigo

One-night deposit is required however you can cancel free of charge up to 7 days in advance. Book and stay by June 30, 2022.

Here are some participating hotels with nightly rate examples:

The benefits look quite similar to IHG’s Luxury and Lifestyle program, with some pros and cons:

+ 10% discount
+ Greater range of hotels included, especially mid-level Hotel Indigos
– Minimum 2-night stay requirement
– No breakfast included
– Less generous cancellation policy

With room upgrade and early check-in / late check-out thrown in, I think it can be good value if you have no IHG status. In terms of the $100 / $50 credit, make sure you compare the Advance Saver or other promo rates to understand what value they really have.

Other IHG offers:

Free Ascott Platinum status and 35% off voucher

If you missed our previous articles, Ascott is a Singapore-based hospitality group focused on service apartments operating across the globe. It’s got multiple properties in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as other locations in Europe.

If you prefer serviced apartment to usual hotels, don’t forget to claim your free Platinum status with Ascott. All you need to do is visit this page and sign in with your credentials, and your status will be upgraded immediately. If you do not have an account yet you’ll need to create one.

It’s a promotion for Mastercard World Elite cardholders in Asia Pacific, however there’s no verification at all. Since they are a niche group, and Platinum doesn’t get you very far in terms of benefits, I don’t think they care enough to guardrail this offer.

Platinum members get room upgrade, early check-in and late check-out at participating hotels. You also get free breakfast in Europe (presumably continental only) and airport transfer in the Middle East.

A 35% voucher will also be deposited into your account once you’ve activated the offer. The voucher is valid through January next year and can save substantially if you have a longer stay.

My review of Hotel Indigo Manchester and a very good £69 deal

I have just finished my one-night stay at Hotel Indigo Manchester earlier this week. I wasn’t too sure about writing a review as it’s probably not of great interest, but after seeing a very good deal on Groupon I’ve decided to do a brief one.

Situated next to the Manchester Victoria station, the hotel is in an original Grade-II listed Victorian building. You may have seen its photo:

But actually it’s slightly misleading. The majority of rooms are actually in the new annex building, which is as high as 13 floors. The reception, restaurant and limited number of superior rooms and suites are in the Victorian building.

I booked an IHG Lifestyle rate plan as I’ve explained before. At BFR (£80) it comes with 2pm late checkout, room upgrade, welcome fruits and most importantly, $50 credit to spend in hotel. I do expect a lot of confusions though, as I suspect I might be the first guest who books this rate at this hotel!

My Double Standard room is upgraded to a King Standard on the 11th floor in the new rotunda. As you can see the shape is a bit unusual:

Its design meets my expectation for an Indigo: modern cosy style with warm colours, and limited furnishing to make the room look more spacious. It’s not gonna be comfortable if you need to spend a lot of time on the work desk.

The floor-to-ceiling window is very nice. Despite of its proximity to Victoria station, I heard literally zero noise throughout my stay.

Here is the free minibar…

Breakfast is £14.95 and all food is cooked to order.

To use my credit I also had a burger for dinner.

Unsurprisingly none of the front desk staff knew anything about IHG Lifestyle, and it took a lot of explanation and I had to send them the screenshot of my reservation details. Apart from that it’s been a pleasant stay.

If you also want to visit this hotel, there’s a very good deal on Groupon which you could access here. It’s for a “Top Secret Hotel in Manchester”, but from the photos I’m 100% sure it’s the Indigo.

You could book and get confirmation right away. There are three room types available: Standard Double, Standard King and Superior. For most dates the rates are £69, £89 and £99 respectively, and on Saturdays they increase to £99, £109 and £129. All rates are inclusive of breakfast.

£69 plus breakfast is roughly the same value as my IHG Lifestyle package. I don’t recommend booking Standard King as the only difference is a larger bed. If you prefer to stay in the old Victorian building you could consider going for the Superior Room.

Travel until end of 2021 and bookings are refundable 48 hours before arrival.
